100 Centres of Excellence!

Centres of Excellence has reached a milestone with 100 schools now on the programme.

Wargrave House School and College, funded by Martin Lewis OBE was the 100th school to be awarded Centre of Excellence status and in this video the Money Saving Expert explains why this is such a significant achievement:

The occasion was marked with a celebration event on the 10 June 2016. Attending the event, amongst others, was the local Mayor, teachers from the Centres of Excellence network, funders and students, and consisted of a variety of presentations showcasing activities and the impact the programme has had to the whole school community.

The Centres of Excellence programme provides support from an education consultant, professional development, closer links with financial sector organisations and bursaries to help schools deliver high quality financial education.

Sheila Jaegar, the school’s Director of Services, said: “At Wargrave House School , it’s our goal to provide a better future for our pupils – and giving them the tools they need to manage their money well is a crucial part of that.  Financial education is a crucial life skill, and by becoming a Centre of Excellence in teaching children about money we are confident we can have a real impact on our pupils’ life prospects.  We are excited to be developing the school in this way for their benefit.”

Michael Mercieca, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise, said: “Awarding our 100th school in the UK with Centre of Excellence status in financial education is a huge milestone, and what better way to celebrate this than to hear from the teachers and students themselves.  Wargrave House School has worked extremely hard to achieve their Centre of Excellence award, and I look forward to seeing them present their progress on the day. Our aim is to ensure that all students enter adult life with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to manage money well – and Wargrave House is doing excellent work to make this goal a reality.”
