Plymouth Lead Teachers

pfeg has worked with Plymouth Local Authority in a number of capacities for many years, through various projects such as What Money Means and My Money. This has included training a number of lead teachers in financial education. There are now 4 lead teachers remaining within Plymouth, all at primary level. They are involved in the financial education CPD provision for the city, and are keen to maintain the momentum and extend the lead teacher network into secondary and SEN.

Funder brief:
Plymouth City Council have a long standing commitment to raising the levels of financial capability across all the local schools.

Plymouth City Council are keen to replicate the network of financial education lead teachers previously developed at primary level at the secondary and SEN level.

Six teachers across 6 different schools worked with a pfeg Education Consultant to develop a scheme of work which covered a number of agreed financial topics and learning areas while also aligning with their existing curriculum delivery plans.

The teachers will deliver lessons and activities to their pupils, and the work was thoroughly and robustly evaluated to demonstrate the impact on teaching and learning.

Subject coverage included citizenship, PSHE education, mathematics and vocational learning and directly reaching 412 students. The Lead Teachers all demonstrated an increase in their knowledge and confidence in delivering financial education, quantitative gains were made across all categories of the statements used with students to assess learning and all teachers felt that students had benefitted from the delivery of the core materials and that financial education had impacted on them positively
