This resource and supporting video (see below) describes how to run a workshop which gives teachers and parents an opportunity to discuss the importance of financial capability to children’s well-being, and for teachers to update parents on their plans for personal finance education including how parents can support their child’s learning at home.

My Money Week

My Money Week is the national themed activity week which pfeg runs annually in June. There are loads more free resources, exciting ideas, videos and competitions all on our My Money Week microsite.

The first half of the workshop is led by a teacher and focuses on why financial capability is important, and what children need to know. Parents also discuss how their children interact with money in a very different way to how they did when they were young. In the second half the parents are joined by their children and together they take part in a range of family learning activities about money. This gives the parents an opportunity to discuss financial issues with their children and gives them confidence to continue those discussions at home. The resource includes facilitator notes and a PowerPoint.

The supporting video features parents and primary-aged children from Ryecroft Middle School who attended a similar workshop during My Money Week 2011.
